Acupuncture Benefits

Acupuncture has been proven to have numerous benefits, but one of them is the reduction of stress.

Stress is the number one reason that patients seek acupuncture treatment. It affects almost every system in our bodies and can affect the health of major organs as well as our circulatory systems. Stress can cause weight gain which could lead to limited activity and then to depression. Stress could very well be considered an epidemic as almost 77% of people said they could feel the physical effects of stress on their bodies.
But what can be done about it? We all have stress in or lives right? Even retirement can be stressful! Stress can be treated and managed. One way to help alleviate the tension from life is through acupuncture. By reducing the hormones which cause stress, acupuncture can moderate mood, reduce anxiety and promote overall feelings of happiness.
Stress reduction is just one of the many benfeits of acupuncture. If you would like to find out more about this method or have any questions, contact us today!

B12 Injections

Vitamin B12 is a surprisingly necessary vitamin.

Vitamin B12 has so many positive effects on the body that we would never even think of. For instance, it is crucial in developing new red blood cells and preventing anemia. It also supports the normal function of your nerve cells and is needed for DNA synthesis. That's a lot to ask of a vitamin, but it does much more!
B12 also...
  • Helps prevent major birth defects
  • Supports bone health and may prevent osteoporosis
  • Reduces risk of macular degeneration
  • May improve mood and symptoms of depression
  • Prevents the loss of neurons, benefitting your brain
  • May give you an energy boost
  • Could improve heart health
  • Supports healthy hair, skin and nails
Is there anything else you could ask for? We didn't think so either. Unfortunately, studies have shown that about 6% of the people in the US are deficient in this vitamin and around 20% are borderline low. Think about all this vitamin does and then think of what happens when you don't have enough.
So what can you do if you think you might be low or defeicient? Well, luckily, we have options. B12 is now offered in injectable form so that your body can get the most use out of it. While B12 has shown no signs of danger from overuse, you should consult with your physician if you have any concerns.
B12 can not be made naturally by our bodies. It is only found in animal products, therefore those on a strict vegan diet nay be low even with certain foods being fortified with the vitamin. Other reasons include: bariatric surgery or bowel resection, age, those with GI diseases such as Crohn's and Celiac, people taking Metformin to control their blood sugar and thos taking proton pump inhibitors (Prevacid, Prilosec, etc) for chronic heartburn.

Natural Allergy Relief

Allergies can be annoying and for some they can be downright awful. But what can you do? Mold won't stop growing and pollen will always be around. We have been relying on allergy medicines for some time now. Products such as Flonase, Zyrtec and Claritin go flying off the shelves during allergy season. The question is: are they helping you or hurting you?
As some of you are already aware, Zyrtec was recently pulled from the shelves for containing products which may cause cancer. This begs the question of what the other popular brands may be doing to our bodies. So must we simply suffer the runny noses, itchy skin and watery eyes that come with the warm weather? Not anymore.
Engystol is a completely natural treatment for allergies that has no side effects. In addition, it also boosts your immune system helping reduce the length of colds and flu viruses. Patients have already said that their noses stopped running after only ten minutes and some have called it a miracle. There is never a bad time to get your shot of Engystol. Call or email today to find out more information!

Weight Loss In The Villages

Losing weight is challenging for most people. This is why it is so important to start off on the right foot.
Dr. Chris Kessler has been helping his patients lose significant amounts of weight for a long time and the results are nothing short of amazing! What could be better than that? The patients KEEP the weight off! We've all heard of yo-yo dieting and we've all heard the stories about losing weight on a fad diet only to regain it as soon as you resumed your normal diet. The truth is that these large weight fluxuations can actually do a lot of harm to your body.
Aside form the results, the best part of this program is that its monitored by a doctor so you know that you are losing weight safely and not using harsh chemicals. Dr. Chris will tailor a plan specific to your goals and dietary needs which allows you to not only lose weight, but improve your overall health as well. Carrying extra weight around is known to cause a multitude of different health issues ranging from inflammation to heart conditions and everywhere in between. The good news is that it is NEVER too late to begin.
If you've tried other programs that haven't worked or maybe you're simply skeptical of weight loss programs in general, this is the best time to ask any questions you may have and find out for yourself if this program is a fit for you. Dr. Chris will be hosting a free seminar to explain his program as well as revealing some of the secrets he has learned to lose weight. Join us on Tuesday, October 22nd at 1:00pm. He will be hosting the seminar at Legacy Clinic and spaces are limited so please call or email today to reserve your spot!

Chiropractic's Birthday!

Legacy Clinic of Chiropractic
352-259-0024

September 18th, 1895: The Greatest Day in American Heath Care, EVER!

September 18th is Chiropractic’s birthday.  The only healthcare model exclusively developed in the United States of America, has always presented a change from the status quo.  In direct competition with drug companies and the Medical Model, it came into this world as an unwanted model of healthcare from the AMA, medical doctors and drug companies.

In fact, the AMA, in a Supreme Court decision in 1989, admitted to using negative propaganda, and slander about the effectiveness, safety and training of chiropractors.  The AMA also admitted to have a Committee within the organization whose sole purpose was to influence the decision of medical doctors to not to refer to chiropractors and to carry out this slander.   After reviewing all the facts, clinical trials, safety records, and training the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Chiropractic and mandated the Medical doctors and the AMA start referring to Chiropractors, and to have an open door policy.  After 10 years of practice, I’m still waiting for that door.

So, with all this negative publicity, and with the most powerful industry against chiropractic, how did it survive now to be the most frequented health care profession in our country?

Chiropractic’s incredibly safe record (chiropractic malpractice is about the cost of car insurance compared to six figure malpractice for the same coverage for medical doctors) and undeniable results has contributed to the amazing growth people being adjusted since 1895.

Recently, the medical journal: JMPT published a study that analyzed data from health comparisons between those who utilize a wellness oriented chiropractor as their Primary Care Physician and those who’s PCP practice a conventional Medical Model.  Here are the findings:

Chiropractic/wellness patients had 60.2% fewer hospital admissions, 59% less days hospitalized, 62% less outpatient surgeries, and 85% less pharmaceutical costs (AMAZING!).

The same journal published the findings of 311 chiropractic patients, ages 65 and older, who had received “maintenance chiropractic care” for five or longer.  What they found when they compared with citizens their own age:

-       Chiropractic patients spent only 31% of the national average for health care
-       They had 50% less medical provider visits
-       Their health habits were radically better than overall population
-       They had far less cigarette consumption
-       98.5% believed that care to be considerably and extremely valuable

Another recent study in the medical journal: Spine, 2007:32 states: Spinal problems reduce quality of life, decrease mobility, lower longevity (lifespan) and increase the risk of coronary artery disease.

1224 years after its birth, the unwanted model of health care is radically improving lives, transforming the way people live, saving lives, and adding years to life.

Pelic Strengthening Exercises

Pelvis Strengthening Exercises

Beginner:

Squat:
  1. Start with your feet approximately shoulder/hip width apart, toes slightly pointed outwards.
  2. Keeping your abdominals and core tight, sit your butt backwards as though you are sitting in a small chair behind you.
  3. Once your hips are just below your knees, use your glutes to push yourself up to the standing position. This is one rep.
  4. Keep knees over your ankles, do not allow them to track over. Keep weight over your heels, no weight over the toes.

Repeat 10x, 2x/ day
Clam shells:

  1. Start lying on the floor on one side with your legs bent at around 90 degrees at the knees. Angle your thighs from your body at around 135 degrees. Shoulders, hips, and feet stay in alignment.
  2. Keeping your hips stacked vertically on top of each other, hinge at the hip to bring the knee of your top leg up, opening your legs like a clamshell.
  3. Keep the heels touching each other, and squeeze the glutes to drive the movement. It’s very important not to let your pelvis roll backwards as you raise your upper leg.
  4. Use your free arm and place your hand on your upper glutes, so you can feel the glute muscles working throughout the exercise. This kind of ‘palpating’ for muscles working can actually increase the amount of muscle recruitment and activation.
Repeat 10x, 2x/ day

Pelvis Strengthening Exercises

Intermediate:

Lunges:

  1. Start standing upright with feet together, and core muscles engaged.
  2. Keeping the left leg straight the whole time, take a large step out to the side with your right leg, bending at the knee.
  3. Sit your hips back and push your butt out behind you as your right knee bends, as if you were sitting in a chair.
  4. Pushing through your right heel, drive up as you engage your glutes to push up out of the lunge and return to the starting position. This is one rep.
  5. Repeat on the same side, or alternate sides (your preference) for the desired number of sets and reps.
10x, 2x/day
Side Lunge:

10x, 2x/day

Pelvis Strengthening Exercises
Advanced
Bridge:
1.    Start lying on your back on the floor, with your knees bent and your feet flat at shoulder with apart about a foot or so away from your butt.
2.    With your knees apart and without actually moving them, imagine squeezing an imaginary ball between your knees. Hold this for the entire exercise, as this can help activate your glutes.
3.    Clench your butt cheeks tightly together, and squeeze hard for the whole exercise.
4.    Keeping your core tight, drive strongly through the heels of your feet to drive your hips up in the air.
5.    Lower back down to the starting position, and repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
10x, 2x/day

Bird/ Dog
1.    Begin on all fours with your hands directly underneath your shoulders and knees directly below hips.
2.    Engaging your core, bring the spine into a neutral position (straight back – neither arched, nor hunched over).
3.    With control, raise your right arm straight out in front of you, and at the same time, extend you left leg out straight behind you.
4.    Hold at the top of the motion and give you glutes a little squeeze to get your leg as high as it will go.
5.    Lower back to the starting position, and repeat with the opposite leg and arm.
10x, 2x/ day

Fire Hydrant
1.       Engage your core muscles so that your spine is in a neutral position, neither arched or hunched excessively.
2.       Keeping the right leg bent 90 degrees at the knee, rotate at the hip in order to lift your outer right thigh up in an arcing motion out to the right side of your body. You want to aim to get your thigh parallel with the ground (out at 90 degrees to your supporting left leg), however, this can require some flexibility.
3.               Most people have a limited range of motion in their hip joints, so this is not only a great hip-opener and mobility exercise, it also works the butt and core stabilizing muscles.
4.               Squeeze the glutes to hold your leg in the cocked position for 1 second or more, and then lower back down.
5.               Repeat with the other leg.
10x, 2x/ day

Resisted Knee Raise

1.       Secure the ankle strap around your active ankle and stand 3 to 4 feet away from the door with your back to the door.
2.       Position your body with your active leg back and far enough away from the door so that the band(s) are starting to stretch.
3.       Keep your back straight, chest up, head straight and stomach tight.
4.       Bring your active leg up and forward until your knee is at hip height.
10x, 2x/ day

Natural Pain Shots

Cortisone shots have been the "go-to" tool for quick relief from pain for a long time now. While cortisone is very effective for many people, more and more research is being done on the harmful effects that could come from repeated use. At Legacy Clinic we believe in providing the best AND safest care for our patients. Sacrificing health down the road for a quick fix today is not what we stand for.
After researching on our own end to find safe alternatives that actually work as well as cortisone does, we found Traumeel and Zeel. Both of these medications use ingedients that are naturally found in the body and concentrate them in one area to promote healing and pain relief without the side effects. We have had great success so far with our patients and several have tried both cortisone and the natural brands. Most have stated that that the natural shots worked just as well if not better than the cortisone.
To learn more about these, contact us by phone at (352) 259-0024 or email at info@legacyclinic.org

Thinking Of Spinal Surgery?

Before you commit to a major operation that is irreversible, why not let the doctors at Legacy take a look at your condition and see if they can't help you? Spinal surgery has it's place and time, but often there are alternative and more effective ways of treating back or neck pain. We have had many patients who have come to us after hearing from the surgeon that the ONLY way to fix their problem was to go under the knife. After a few weeks with us, they were pain free and able to enjoy their lives again. All that with no scarring and no huge screws in their spines. If you've been told that you need surgery or are just contemplating your options, include Legacy Clinic. Consultations are free and no obligation. Contact us today for more information at:

IT Band Syndrome

The Iliotibial Band (IT Band for short) is a very long, thick band of fascia that runs from the hip down to the knee. This is the primary cause of knee pain for runners but can also affect just about anyone else who overuses it. Golfers may find pain during their swings and even going for a walk could cause pain.
IT Band Syndrome is caused by the ligament tightening so much that it rubs against the thighbone. The main symptoms are pain between the hip and knee and worsening with activity.
ITBS generally takes months to heal on its own and possibly longer depending on the strain and continued use. Steroid shots have been used in the past to reduce inflammation, but luckily places like Legacy Clinic have started using natural elements to achieve the same effect without the harm of overusing steroids.
Adjustments and massage therapy can also be very beneficial in speeding the recovery time and getting you back to the daily activities that this may have prevented you from doing.
For more information or if you think you might have ITBS, contact us today at:

Ingredients
  • 2 teaspoons coconut oil
  • 6 large portobello mushroom caps, cleaned and gills removed (gently scrape it out with a spoon)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1/2 pound ground turkey
  • Handful of baby spinach leaves
  • 6-8 grape tomatoes, sliced (and roasted if you prefer)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste (Italian seasoning would be great too!)
Instructions

  2. In the same skillet, add the onion and sauté until softened, about 3 minutes. Then add the ground turkey to the pan and break it up into small pieces with a spatula or wooden spoon. Cook until it's all cooked through. Sprinkle salt and pepper and other seasonings, if using.

Seasonal Allergies

It's the most wonderful time of the year!
Allergy Season!!!
All the cars are sprinkled with a nice orange dusting, the trees and grass are just begging you to take deep breath. Allergy season is in full effect. But what can you do about it?
While there are some medications out there which help control your reaction to allergens, many of these medicines can have side-effects that are worse than what they are designed to relieve. So is there a way that you can control your body's reaction to allergens without harmful chemicals and side-effects? The simple answer is, yes.
Everyone has a different reaction to allergens and there are many different types of allergens out there.
Some people may have a sensitivity to pollen where others may not or may have much less of a reaction. Some people will begin to sneeze, some will get puffy eyes, some will get hives, and some will get a combination of these. Antronex is a safe and effective way to inhibit your body's natural reaction, allowing you to breath easy and stop suffering.
Allergens release histamines which cause your body to respond in different ways. There are two ways to reduce the symptoms from these. First, is to manage the response to histamines. Second, is to encourage the functioning of the liver. The liver is the key organ in ridding the body of histamines. Most medications block histamines but don't get rid of them so the drug wears off and you are back to square one. Better Swing, Less Pain

I had the pleasure of working at The Villages Golf Festival this weekend representing Legacy Clinic and being the only Titleist Performance Institute Certified chiropractor at the event.

Titleist Performance Institute is an educational organization dedicated to the study of how the human body functions in relation to the golf swing. One thing that really surprised me was how many golfers were spending money on a “magical” golf aid seeking greater distance but were unwilling to invest time and money into their own body to get it. The most common thing we see happen to golfers who receive regular chiropractic care is the ability to hit it further and have more stamina throughout the round.

Most professional golfers have a chiropractor they see to ensure that their whole body is performing optimally. If one area or muscle of someones body is not working properly, it can cause other parts of the body to overcompensate, which can lead to pain and dysfunction. If your lower back or pelvis is not moving properly, then you will be restricted on the amount of speed and distance you can generate. If these areas are not moving correctly you put extra stress on your spine, which can lead to a multitude of spinal related conditions.

If you are looking to improve your health,  get more distance and a better swing, then it is time to get under regular chiropractic care - just like the professionals do.

Trigger Ppint Acupuncture

What Are Trigger Points?
Trigger points are more commonly known as "knots" in our muscles. When there are too many of these "knots" it is called Myofascial Pain Syndrome. This can cause an alarming amount of pain and can often occur without warning. They tend to cluster around an injury and they can be a major factor in back and neck pain.
What Is Trigger Point Acupuncture?
Trigger Point Acupuncture (TPA) is a technique wehre a therapist will insert tiny needles into the affected muscles causing them to loosen and relax. Trigger points are believed to be micro-spasms in muscle tissue. By inserting the needle into the tissue, it temporarily blocks the signal controlling your muscle to spasm. Without this signal, your muscle is free to return to its natural state.
Why choose this method?
This method is great for relieving pain caused by trigger points. Those who have chronic severe pain may find that it doesn't completely relieve the pain but lessens it to a greater extent than other options. Those with minor aches and "knots" can usually find whole relief from pain and can prevent the reoccurance.

CBD Cream and Oil

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a natural compound found in the cannabis plant. Many people have misconceptions because this plant also produces THC which gives you the "stoned" or intoxicated feeling. Rest assured that CBD works in a much different way and does leave you feeling high. This part of the plant is purely used for medicinal purposes and studies have shown great success in treatment of a variety of diagnoses.

We have held webinars int the past which delve much further into detail of how this works in the body. With that being said, we will touch on the main points here and we suggest speaking to your doctor or joining one of our webinars for further information. Please speak to a qualified person and DO NOT trust what you find on the web! There are great articles and misleading articles out there and it is hard to know the difference.
CBD mimicks and augments the effects of compounds which naturally occur throughout our bodies. These compounds play a crucial role in a variety of physiological effects in our bodies which affect our everday lives such as: mood, energy, immunity, blood pressure, bone density and glucose metabolism to name just a few. Clearly these are some highly important processes. So what happens when the system which controls these processes isn't functioning properly? To put it plainly, disease happens.
CBD helps to regulate this system and assist where it is needed. This could mean boosting your immune system, lowering blood pressure, or just calming anxiety. It will have different effects for different people because they themselves have different needs. The best part is that it has received high marks in several studies on a range of topics and it is safe to use without having to worry about it becoming habit forming. CBD has no addictive qualities.
There are two popular ways that CBD is sold. One is in a cream form and the other is in an oil form. They do have different purposes so it is important to know what you are looking to get relief from. The oil is administered under the tongue by a dropper. The oil works systemically meaning it is meant to help with pain over large areas of the body. It also has a calming effect which has helped many with a host of anxiety/panic disorders. The cream is more often used to treat acute pain and could be used for chronic pain in a smaller area of the body. For instance, if you have pain and inflammation in your knees, the cream can be directly applied to that area and will have better effects than the oil.
Lastly, CBD is 100% legal in all 50 states and many countries. That being said, please use caution when travelling as the cream and oil still fall under the maximum ounces allowed in carry-on luggage. Not all countries have the same laws concerning CBD so please check in advance to avoid any potential problems.

Therapeutic Ultrasound

What Does Ultrasound Do?

Therapeutic ultrasound is used primarily for two different effects: the deep heating treatment and non-thermal uses.

Deep Heating Effects: Ultrasound is often used to provide deep heating to soft tissue structures in the body. Deep heating tendons, muscles or ligaments increases circulation to those tissues, which is thought to help the healing process. Increasing tissue temperature with ultrasound is also used to help decrease pain.
Deep heating can be used to increase the "stretchiness" of muscles and tendons that may be tight. If you have shoulder pain and have been diagnosed with a frozen shoulder, your therapist may use ultrasound to help improve the extensibility of the tissues around your shoulder prior to performing range of motion exercises. This may help improve the ability of your shoulder to stretch.

Non-Thermal Effects (Cavitation): Ultrasound introduces energy into the body. This energy causes microscopic gas bubbles around your tissues to expand and contract rapidly, a process called cavitation. It is theorized that the expansion and contraction of these bubbles help speed cellular processes and improves healing of injured tissue.

How Does Ultrasound Work?

Inside your therapist's ultrasound unit is a small crystal. When an electrical charge is applied to this crystal, it vibrates rapidly, creating piezoelectric waves. These waves are emitted from the ultrasound sound head as ultrasound waves. The ultrasound wave then enters into your injured tissues during application of the modality. This increases blood flow and cavitation, leading to the theorized benefits of the treatment.

How Is Ultrasound Applied?

Ultrasound is performed with a machine that has an ultrasound transducer (sound head). A small amount of gel is applied to the particular body part; then your therapist slowly moves the sound head in a small circular direction on your body. The therapist may change various settings of the ultrasound unit to control the depth of penetration of the ultrasound waves or change the intensity of the ultrasound. Different settings are used in various stages of healing.
Your therapist may use ultrasound gel combined with a topical medication to help treat inflammation around soft tissue in the body. This process is called phonophoresis.

What Ultrasound Feels Like

While you are receiving an ultrasound treatment, you will most likely not feel anything happening, except perhaps a slight warming sensation or tingling around the area being treated. If the ultrasound sound head is left in place on your skin and not moved in a circular direction, you may experience pain. If this occurs, tell your therapist right away.

Alternative To Cortisone?

Many of our patients have had a cortisone shot at one point or another. Cortisone is an anti-inflammatory which helps to reduce pain in the area that its injected. Studies have shown however, that overuse of cortisone can lead to cartilage damage in joints and ultimately lead to more pain down the road. Doctors often limit how many injections a patient can have in a certain period of time due to the possible risks involved. For those who have chronic pain and get relief from these shots, this can be hard news to hear.

There is an alternative called prolotherapy. This therapy injects natural substances into the body which promote healing. These substances have been proven safe even in large amounts and because of this, multiple areas of the body can be treated at once. Studies have shown this therapy to be highly effective in relieving pain and without any side effects. One of two types of substances are used: those found in the body (bone marrow, adipose tissue, plasma) or dextrose which is very similar to d-glucose that is in your body.

Cortisone over-use has been studied for some time now. While the results do vary, we believe you should know what you're having put into your body. Hyaluronic acid is a great tool to repair cartilage in our joints like knees, elbows and shoulders but damage from cortisone can not be repaired by this method. The following chart shows other differences between prolotherapy and cortisone injections.

If you are considering getting cortisone injections or are looking for a safer alternative to those you are already getting, please look into prolotherapy. If you have further questions, ask the doctor on your next visit.

Sacroiliac Joint Pain

The SI or sacroiliac joints connect your hip bones to your lower spine. These joints are made to swivel back and forth to help us walk and twist at the hips. Sometimes, we can injur these joints and they will lock themselves into place. If this has ever happened to you, it was probably evident right away.
Because our muscles protect our bones, they will often guard the joints by shortening and tightening up. This can make things like walking very hard to do and can lead to severe pain.
We are putting some exercises here to help prevent any injuries and relieve the pain for those of you that have it.

Start by doing 10 repetitions of each once a day, and slowly build your way up to three times a day. This will help avoid further aggravating the area.

Low Carb (Keto) Pizza Recipe

This recipe works great for those who are trying ot cut carbs, work a ketogenic diet, or have gluten sensitivities. The best part is that unlike most low carb or diet foods, this is actually very tasty!
Pizza has always and will always be a favorite of mine. Unfortunately, the pizza you get from restaurants or the frozen section are often loaded with gluten, sugar, carbs, and unhealthy oils. The thought of having to give up a staple of my diet was daunting but with this recipe I can enjoy a version of pizza that I don't have to regret the moment I eat it.
With just a few ingredients, you can be on your way:

  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups mozzarella, shredded
  • 3/4 cup almond flour
  • 2 oz cream cheese, softened
  1. Preheat oven to 425F (220C)
  2. To make the dough: Combine mozzarella, cream cheese and almond flour into microwave safe bowl
  3. Microwave on high for 45 seconds, remove and stir ingredients, then heat again for another 45 seconds
  4. Use a spatula to stir in the beaten egg
  5. Use your hands, preferrably oiled, to knead the dough into a ball for about 2 minutes
  6. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and use a rolling pin to spread the dough. Using another parchment sheet on top of the dough may make rolling it easier.
  7. Roll the dough until the dough is as thick or thin as you like it to be. Poke the dough with a fork in several places to prevent bubbling when baking.
  8. Bake the dough until it is firm. Dark spots may appear. Times will vary slightly depending on thickness of dough.
  9. Enjoy!

Laser Therapy for Tendonitis

What is Tendonitis?

Tendonitis occurs when the flexible bands of tissue that connect the bones to the muscles become inflamed and painful. This is sometimes referred to as "tennis elbow" or "golfer's elbow", but it can happen throughout the body. Current treatments for tendonitis often revolve around stretching and conditioning, heavy us of anti-inflammatories, massage, and heat or ice packs. While these treatments can be effective, they often take a long time to work and excessive use of NSAIDs can lead to much more severe problems. Luckily, there's good news!

Recently, high intensity laser therapy (HILT) has come to the foreground of techniques to treat tendonitis along with a host of other diagnoses. This technique has proven to be fast, reliable and safe. New research has added weight to the claims of laser therapy.

But how does it work?

We're glad you asked. Laser therapy works by emitting light (laser) deep into the tissue. Studies have shown that it is able to penetrate further than ultrasound waves. The result of this is an improvement of tissue repair. It also increases the speed at which your lymphatic system drains from the injured areas. Research is showing that it also increases recruitment of cells to an injured area which speeds up your body's natural healing process.

Yes, but DOES it work?

Another great question! Clinical studies have shown that patients treated with laser showed much greater decreases in pain. They also had better outcomes with joint mobility, functionality, and muscle strength.

Restless Leg Syndrome

There is a lot of evidence that a lack of magnesium in the body is related to RLS. Taking a daily dose of magnesium can help you acheive better quality and quantity of sleep as well as reducing the symtpoms. When our bodies are stressed, calcium enters the cells and makes the muscles tense up. Magnesium's job is to push that calcium back out of the cell so the muscles can relax. When we don't have enough magnesium to push all the calcium out of our cells, our muscles stay tense much longer and this can lead to pain and/or restlessness.

Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) is a disorder of the nervous system which causes a very strong urge to move your legs. It can also be accompanied by pain, throbbing and other rather unpleasant symptoms. The symptoms of RLS often become much more noticeable when you are inactive like sitting or lying down. For obvious reasons, this makes sleeping incredibly difficult for those affected by this disorder. Unfortunately, this lack of proper sleep can lead to increased agitation and need for caffeine making RLS worse.
Natural Vitality has produced a supplement named Natural Calm. This "anti-stress drink" works to balance the calcium and magnesium levels in our bodies reducing stress and letting us feel more relaxed. This drink doesn't just work for those with RLS symptoms. Too much stress in our lives can lead to more severe diseases. Calm reduces the amount of damage being done by replenishing us with the electrolytes we need to return to a relaxed state quickly after a stressful situation.
Previous treatments for RLS have included muscle relaxers, opiods and sleep medications. All of these can be harmful and, as we all know, opiods can be highly addictive. Try a bottle of Calm and see the results for yourself.

Embarrassing Nails?

Nail fungus can cause your nails to yellow, harden, crack and become painful. As if all that weren't bad enough, it can also be very embarrassing.
Treatment in the past has included everything from creams, to pills (with very harsh side effects), to surgery. After all of this, the fungi might come back within the year. This is why we're telling you about another option, laser therapy. Laser therapy is designed to kill the fungi and any damaged tissue in the area. This option has no side effects and its pain-free. A recent study also showed that 76% of those tested showed signs of improvement after only 4 treatments.
Those with diabetes or a weakened immune system are at even more risk when they leave this fungus untreated as it could lead to more severe diseases later on.

Decompression Or Bust!

Decompression is a therapy used to open the spaces between the vertebrae and relief pressure on the discs. Our spines should be curved. They are curved to support our weight against that nasty thing called gravity. Through poor posture or constantly looking down at our phones or books, we start to lose that curvature. Losing that curvature can lead to several things including; arthritis, stenosis, hernias and pain among other things. Pain is often times the last symptom that something is wrong.

Decompression works to restore your spine to its natural position and take pressure off the discs allowing them to heal. Over time, your body can be trained to hold the spine with this correction. Most patients believe that this process will hurt, but in fact most agree it feels quite the opposite. The treatment generally involves a belt that pulls downward from your hips or a brace that pulls upward from your neck. This pulling is noticeable but should not cause any extra discomfort. For a lot of patients, the vertebrae can collapse down on the discs in between them. This cause those discs to bulge out and can pinch on the nerves. This can affect the entire body as the spinal nerve branches out to the whole body. Taking the pressure off the discs through decmpression can relieve the discomfort and pain caused by the pinched nerve.

Decompression, along with manual adjustments, can mean a lot less pain and lot more freedom to enjoy the things you like to do. If you think you might benefit from our help, call or email us today.

Improve Your Foundation

Dr. Chris is certified to provide Foot Levelers custom orthotics. Foot Levelers are not just any pair of inserts that you can get at the drug store. These inserts are custom made for you based on a 3D scan of your feet. This scan takes into account all of your arches (yes, there is more than one), it measures for how much pressure you place on your feet and in which areas. This means that your inserts are meant just for you.

Why should anyone get inserts for their shoes? Proper support for your feet is very important because the rest of you is supported from this point. If your feet are not supported, everything above your feet isn't properly supported either. Properly fitted inserts can help to prevent fallen arches, take stress off your other joints, and relieve pain. Often, people with these orthotic inserts find themselves able to go much further as well.
