Laser Therapy for Tendonitis

What is Tendonitis?

Tendonitis occurs when the flexible bands of tissue that connect the bones to the muscles become inflamed and painful. This is sometimes referred to as "tennis elbow" or "golfer's elbow", but it can happen throughout the body. Current treatments for tendonitis often revolve around stretching and conditioning, heavy us of anti-inflammatories, massage, and heat or ice packs. While these treatments can be effective, they often take a long time to work and excessive use of NSAIDs can lead to much more severe problems. Luckily, there's good news!

Recently, high intensity laser therapy (HILT) has come to the foreground of techniques to treat tendonitis along with a host of other diagnoses. This technique has proven to be fast, reliable and safe. New research has added weight to the claims of laser therapy.

But how does it work?

We're glad you asked. Laser therapy works by emitting light (laser) deep into the tissue. Studies have shown that it is able to penetrate further than ultrasound waves. The result of this is an improvement of tissue repair. It also increases the speed at which your lymphatic system drains from the injured areas. Research is showing that it also increases recruitment of cells to an injured area which speeds up your body's natural healing process.

Yes, but DOES it work?

Another great question! Clinical studies have shown that patients treated with laser showed much greater decreases in pain. They also had better outcomes with joint mobility, functionality, and muscle strength.

Restless Leg Syndrome

There is a lot of evidence that a lack of magnesium in the body is related to RLS. Taking a daily dose of magnesium can help you acheive better quality and quantity of sleep as well as reducing the symtpoms. When our bodies are stressed, calcium enters the cells and makes the muscles tense up. Magnesium's job is to push that calcium back out of the cell so the muscles can relax. When we don't have enough magnesium to push all the calcium out of our cells, our muscles stay tense much longer and this can lead to pain and/or restlessness.

Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) is a disorder of the nervous system which causes a very strong urge to move your legs. It can also be accompanied by pain, throbbing and other rather unpleasant symptoms. The symptoms of RLS often become much more noticeable when you are inactive like sitting or lying down. For obvious reasons, this makes sleeping incredibly difficult for those affected by this disorder. Unfortunately, this lack of proper sleep can lead to increased agitation and need for caffeine making RLS worse.
Natural Vitality has produced a supplement named Natural Calm. This "anti-stress drink" works to balance the calcium and magnesium levels in our bodies reducing stress and letting us feel more relaxed. This drink doesn't just work for those with RLS symptoms. Too much stress in our lives can lead to more severe diseases. Calm reduces the amount of damage being done by replenishing us with the electrolytes we need to return to a relaxed state quickly after a stressful situation.
Previous treatments for RLS have included muscle relaxers, opiods and sleep medications. All of these can be harmful and, as we all know, opiods can be highly addictive. Try a bottle of Calm and see the results for yourself.

Embarrassing Nails?

Nail fungus can cause your nails to yellow, harden, crack and become painful. As if all that weren't bad enough, it can also be very embarrassing.
Treatment in the past has included everything from creams, to pills (with very harsh side effects), to surgery. After all of this, the fungi might come back within the year. This is why we're telling you about another option, laser therapy. Laser therapy is designed to kill the fungi and any damaged tissue in the area. This option has no side effects and its pain-free. A recent study also showed that 76% of those tested showed signs of improvement after only 4 treatments.
Those with diabetes or a weakened immune system are at even more risk when they leave this fungus untreated as it could lead to more severe diseases later on.

Decompression Or Bust!

Decompression is a therapy used to open the spaces between the vertebrae and relief pressure on the discs. Our spines should be curved. They are curved to support our weight against that nasty thing called gravity. Through poor posture or constantly looking down at our phones or books, we start to lose that curvature. Losing that curvature can lead to several things including; arthritis, stenosis, hernias and pain among other things. Pain is often times the last symptom that something is wrong.

Decompression works to restore your spine to its natural position and take pressure off the discs allowing them to heal. Over time, your body can be trained to hold the spine with this correction. Most patients believe that this process will hurt, but in fact most agree it feels quite the opposite. The treatment generally involves a belt that pulls downward from your hips or a brace that pulls upward from your neck. This pulling is noticeable but should not cause any extra discomfort. For a lot of patients, the vertebrae can collapse down on the discs in between them. This cause those discs to bulge out and can pinch on the nerves. This can affect the entire body as the spinal nerve branches out to the whole body. Taking the pressure off the discs through decmpression can relieve the discomfort and pain caused by the pinched nerve.

Decompression, along with manual adjustments, can mean a lot less pain and lot more freedom to enjoy the things you like to do. If you think you might benefit from our help, call or email us today.

Improve Your Foundation

Dr. Chris is certified to provide Foot Levelers custom orthotics. Foot Levelers are not just any pair of inserts that you can get at the drug store. These inserts are custom made for you based on a 3D scan of your feet. This scan takes into account all of your arches (yes, there is more than one), it measures for how much pressure you place on your feet and in which areas. This means that your inserts are meant just for you.

Why should anyone get inserts for their shoes? Proper support for your feet is very important because the rest of you is supported from this point. If your feet are not supported, everything above your feet isn't properly supported either. Properly fitted inserts can help to prevent fallen arches, take stress off your other joints, and relieve pain. Often, people with these orthotic inserts find themselves able to go much further as well.
