Decompression is a therapy used to open the spaces between the vertebrae and relief pressure on the discs. Our spines should be curved. They are curved to support our weight against that nasty thing called gravity. Through poor posture or constantly looking down at our phones or books, we start to lose that curvature. Losing that curvature can lead to several things including; arthritis, stenosis, hernias and pain among other things. Pain is often times the last symptom that something is wrong.
Decompression works to restore your spine to its natural position and take pressure off the discs allowing them to heal. Over time, your body can be trained to hold the spine with this correction. Most patients believe that this process will hurt, but in fact most agree it feels quite the opposite. The treatment generally involves a belt that pulls downward from your hips or a brace that pulls upward from your neck. This pulling is noticeable but should not cause any extra discomfort. For a lot of patients, the vertebrae can collapse down on the discs in between them. This cause those discs to bulge out and can pinch on the nerves. This can affect the entire body as the spinal nerve branches out to the whole body. Taking the pressure off the discs through decmpression can relieve the discomfort and pain caused by the pinched nerve.
Decompression, along with manual adjustments, can mean a lot less pain and lot more freedom to enjoy the things you like to do. If you think you might benefit from our help, call or email us today.

Back Surgery WARNING from the NBA
"I can tell you if you are listening out there:
If you have back problems, stay away from surgery;”
I’m sure some of you have seen that one of the best teams in the NBA (the
Golden State Warriors) no longer have their head coach with them on the bench.
Steve Kerr, the 51 year-old coach is out with excruciating back pain.
The interesting part of the story is that he had back surgery less than two years ago, and made the comment:
"I can tell you if you are listening out there: If you have back problems, stay away from surgery,”;
"I can say that from the bottom of my heart.
Rehab, Rehab, Rehab."
Dr. Robert Aptekar, a board certified and Stanford University-trained
orthopedic surgeon with 25 years experience, agreed with Kerr's advice.
And the research would agree with both of them!
A study published by SPINE Journal in May of 2013 looked at workers with occupational back pain or injuries:
The key to the outcomes heavily involved ONE major component:
WHO they saw for their back problem!
42.7% of those who saw a surgeon as their primary contact ended up in surgery within 3 years,
while just 1.5% of those who saw a Chiropractor ended up needing surgery.
(reference to study above)
The authors note that back injuries are the most prevalent occupational injury in the U.S., and back pain is the most costly and prevalent occupational health condition amongst U.S. workers.
Costs for occupational back pain increased over 65% from
1996 through 2002, and surgeries represent a significant proportion of these costs.
Combine that with sky-rocketing opioid use and the destruction they bring to a person and an entire society.
- There were 112 million Opioid prescriptions in 1992
- And there were 259 million Opioid prescriptions in 2015
- 6/10 drug deaths involve opioids
Chiropractic care reaches FAR beyond just pain relief, but a common and great side effect of removing sublaxtions (and interference to the nervous system) is
pain reduction!
