B12 Injections

Vitamin B12 is a surprisingly necessary vitamin.

Vitamin B12 has so many positive effects on the body that we would never even think of. For instance, it is crucial in developing new red blood cells and preventing anemia. It also supports the normal function of your nerve cells and is needed for DNA synthesis. That's a lot to ask of a vitamin, but it does much more!
B12 also...
  • Helps prevent major birth defects
  • Supports bone health and may prevent osteoporosis
  • Reduces risk of macular degeneration
  • May improve mood and symptoms of depression
  • Prevents the loss of neurons, benefitting your brain
  • May give you an energy boost
  • Could improve heart health
  • Supports healthy hair, skin and nails
Is there anything else you could ask for? We didn't think so either. Unfortunately, studies have shown that about 6% of the people in the US are deficient in this vitamin and around 20% are borderline low. Think about all this vitamin does and then think of what happens when you don't have enough.
So what can you do if you think you might be low or defeicient? Well, luckily, we have options. B12 is now offered in injectable form so that your body can get the most use out of it. While B12 has shown no signs of danger from overuse, you should consult with your physician if you have any concerns.
B12 can not be made naturally by our bodies. It is only found in animal products, therefore those on a strict vegan diet nay be low even with certain foods being fortified with the vitamin. Other reasons include: bariatric surgery or bowel resection, age, those with GI diseases such as Crohn's and Celiac, people taking Metformin to control their blood sugar and thos taking proton pump inhibitors (Prevacid, Prilosec, etc) for chronic heartburn.

First Rib Subluxation

First Rib Subluxation

First Rib Subluxations are one of the most misdiagnosed and overlooked issues when a patient is examined by a medical doctor and one that walks into our office on a daily basis.

If you have a first rib subluxation you may be experiencing a plethora of symptoms including headaches, breathing difficulties, numbness, carpal tunnel syndrome, shoulder pain, chest pain and pain throughout your entire arm and hand.

The first rib in the human body is an atypical rib and is an important anatomical landmark. It wraps around the cervical spine and touches both the sternum in the front of your body and the lateral aspect of your first thoracic vertebrae just below the base of your neck. This bone can become fixated in a superior position and can cause varying degrees of pain. We find that this subluxation can occur after sleeping in an odd position, if a person normally has forward head posture or if you spend a lot of time with your head flexed forward while reading or texting.

First rib subluxation is usually involved if someone is diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome which can compress the nerves, arteries or veins in the passageway from the lower neck to the upper arm. It can inhibit the body’s ability to naturally supply the arm with proper blood and nerve supply and can often inhibit an individual from being able to fully raise their arms above their head.

This type of problem should normally be fixed in our office in a total of 3-4 visits without the use of drugs or surgery.

Treatment May Include:

Chiropractic Adjustments to restore proper position of the bone.
Ultrasound to bring blood flow and oxygen back to the area.
Cupping and Graston Technique are often used to relax the muscles around the area to ensure that the bone is not pulled back out of place after the adjustment itself.
Kinesio Taping to hold the adjustment in place and to ensure speedy healing.

It is almost Turkey Day and I wanted to share this heathy recipe with you. When purchasing a turkey the best turkey would be organic and hormone free.
Herb Roasted Turkey Recipe ingredient
1 11 lbs. whole pastured free range turkey
1 teaspoon dried oregano 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
1 teaspoon thyme
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1 large onion – quartered
1 head garlic – cut into 2 pieces
1 medium size lemon- quartered
Coconut oil, melted (as needed)

Preheat oven to 325 F degrees. In a small bowl mix the oregano, rosemary, thyme, black pepper and salt. Remove the gizzards and neck from the completely thawed turkey. Place the cut garlic, onion, and lemon inside the turkey. Using your finger gently loosen the skin of the turkey and rub the spice mixture underneath the skin of the turkey breast and thigh. Do it very gently to avoid breaking the skin. Put the turkey on the middle oven rack. Place a pan underneath turkey on the rack below to catch the drippings. Roast for 3 hours. The turkey is done when an instant read thermometer reads registers 165 degree when it is inserted to the thickest part of the thigh. Melt coconut oil and brush all over the turkey and let rest for at least 10 minutes before carving. Enjoy. Happy Turkey Day!!!
