Reasons To Consider Dry Needling

Dry Needling or Myofascial trigger point dry needling, utilizes the same thin, small needles that acupuncture uses. By inserting the needles into the muscle tissue, tight or knotty tissue can be relaxed. We've had a lot of patients asking about this technique because their friends or therapists have told them they should try it. We wanted to shed some light on this technique and provide you with a little insight as to what dry needling is.

Muscle Relaxation

It is believed that inserting a needle into the muscle tissue can disrupt the electric flow and stop your muscles from tensing up. This allows them to release to their relaxed state and knotted or tight tissue will relax.

Increased Blood Flow

When the musles tighten, it decreases the blood flow in our bodies. By releasign the tension in the muscles, we can increase our blood flow. This causes the nutrients we all need to be healthy to be better distributed throughout.

Decreasing Pain and Releasing Neurotransmitters

Dry needling releases certain opiate peptides like endorphines, which block the transmission of pain siganls to the brain and spinal cord. This effect decreases the amount of pain you feel because your brain has stopped responding to those distress signals.

Treating Chronic Pain

You shouldn't have to live with pain. Dry needling is used for acute and chronic conditions. It can be useful for: plantar fasciitis, sciatica, back/neck pain, headaches and much more.

Cupping? What is It?

Many patients have heard of the term "cupping". Whether they have heard about it from friends who have had it done, or they heard about watching the olympics. Unfortunately, while a lot of people have heard of it, not many know what it is and what it can do for you.

Some of the possible benefits of cupping are:

  • Encouraging blood flow
  • Loosening muscles
  • Sedating the nervous system (great for high blood pressure)
  • Relieving back and neck pains
  • Relieving migraines
  • Treatment for anxiety, rheumatism, and even cellulite
At Legacy Clinic our massage therapists are able to perform cupping and we now have an acupuncturist who also does cupping.

Call us today to schedule an appointment.

For Pains in the Neck!

Pains In The Neck?
If you have:

  • Chronic Neck Pain,
  • Headaches,
  • Tingling or Pain in the Arm,
  • Degenerative Disc or Degenerative Joint Disease,
  • Been told by your Doctor that you have “Arthritis in your Neck”,
  • and/or are Over the Age of 40
you probably will get HUGE benefit from doing Cervical Traction!
What is Cervical Traction and Why Do You NEED It?

Cervical Traction is a therapeutic device/method used to relieve pain by stretching and re-aligning the vertebral discs of the spine.

The spinal discs become Avascular (lack of direct blood supply) after the age of 12.
Avascular tissue needs nutrition and waste product removal to function normally; as well as for repair and regeneration. Motion is what is needed to get nutrients moving in and waste products moving out; This motion can be accomplished using a cervical traction unit.

BENEFITS OF CERVICAL TRACTION:

  1. Helps restore the natural curve of the neck
  2. Helps hydrate vertebral discs
  3. Aids in relief of stiff, sore neck pain
  4. Relieves pressure and constriction on the nerves
  5. Improves circulation
  6. Relieves muscle spasms
  7. And More...
