Decompression is a therapy used to open the spaces between the vertebrae and relief pressure on the discs. Our spines should be curved. They are curved to support our weight against that nasty thing called gravity. Through poor posture or constantly looking down at our phones or books, we start to lose that curvature. Losing that curvature can lead to several things including; arthritis, stenosis, hernias and pain among other things. Pain is often times the last symptom that something is wrong.
Decompression works to restore your spine to its natural position and take pressure off the discs allowing them to heal. Over time, your body can be trained to hold the spine with this correction. Most patients believe that this process will hurt, but in fact most agree it feels quite the opposite. The treatment generally involves a belt that pulls downward from your hips or a brace that pulls upward from your neck. This pulling is noticeable but should not cause any extra discomfort. For a lot of patients, the vertebrae can collapse down on the discs in between them. This cause those discs to bulge out and can pinch on the nerves. This can affect the entire body as the spinal nerve branches out to the whole body. Taking the pressure off the discs through decmpression can relieve the discomfort and pain caused by the pinched nerve.
Decompression, along with manual adjustments, can mean a lot less pain and lot more freedom to enjoy the things you like to do. If you think you might benefit from our help, call or email us today.
