Acupuncture. Is it for me?

Acupuncture is becoming a treatment that is much more well known but there are still a lot of questions about it.

What does it do? Will it hurt? Does it really work? These are popular questions heard in and out of the office. We want to shed some light on this fantastic practice and clear up any concerns you may have.

The question I hear most is, "Will it hurt?". Everyone has a different level of sensitivity, but having had it done myself, I can safely say that it does not hurt. Many patients actually get so relaxed that they fall asleep. The needles (or pins) used are as thin as a hair and don't need to be invasively inserted like a syringe neeedle would be.

Another question often heard is "Will it work?". This, of course, is a lot tougher to answer. The answer depends greatly on what the person is trying to treat. Please note that this will NOT cure cancer or any other outrageous claim that  may be found on the internet. That being said, acupuncture has been proven very effective in many situations through studies conducted by notable authorities such as the World Health Organization and others. Just to name a few of the things that acupuncture can treat: anxiety, arthritis, headaches, chronic pain, and chronic fatigue syndrome.

The question "What does it do?" is also a complicated one, which is why there is a LOT of schooling needed to perform this therapy. To simplify as best as I can, acupuncture promotes the natural healing process and improves body functions by stimulating specific areas of the body. This stimulation also releases endorphines which are your body's natural painkillers!
